Richmond is one of Britain’s most beautiful market towns.
Its 11th century castle, fine historic buildings, large cobbled market place and many hidden corners make it a treasure trove for visitors.
Richmond’s appeal is not only confined to its historic monuments and spectacular scenery. It is also an exciting, bustling place to visit with individual shops, contemporary art galleries and a rich social scene.
Standing at the entrance to Swaledale, Richmond makes an excellent base for exploring some of Britain’s most beautiful countryside, not least the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Here you’ll find attractive towns such as Hawes, Leyburn, Reeth and not forgetting Aysgarth, with its impressive waterfalls.
Richmond also offers easy access to the historic cities of Durham,
Ripon and York.
Cycling & Walking
There is an excellent network of bridleways and footpaths in the Richmond and swaledale area, providing all standards of routs in spectacular scenery. The town itself sits at the heart of the popular Coast to Coast walk.
Horse Riding
A number of equestrian centres are situated around Richmond offering the visitor the opportunity to learn to ride or to enjoy treks in the beautiful countryside
Golf
Fine 18-hole courses located at Richmond and nearby Catterick Garrison. Both clubs welcome new visitors.
Angling
After buying a local permit, anglers can enjoy the delights of one of Britain’s best mixed fishing rivers, weather it be via the many access points along side the park or further a field. There are also a number of well stocked lakes situated on the outskirts of the town.
Swimming
Richmond Pool offers swimming for the whole family in spacious modern surroundings. Alternatively, you can relax in the Riverside Health Suite, incorporating sauna, steam room, spa and sun bed.
